Lufthansa has started its operation to include further
flights between Johannesburg/Cape Town and Frankfurt as well as twice a week flights
between Johannesburg and Zurich by Swiss
International Air Lines (SWISS).
Lufthansa started South Africa-Europe flights operation By
working closely with both the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and
the Embassy of Switzerland in South Africa, as well as local government, the
Lufthansa Air will continue to operate special flights to enable South African
nationals to return their homes while transporting the German and the Swiss nationals, European
Union members and Schengen State people to their respective homes. Also, the
Lufthansa special flights will allow employees of the German and EU business
community, including technical experts, to travel to South Africa for special
work purposes.
“Currently, these kind of flights are the mainly vital
service that an airline can offer in a country where travel restrictions remain
in place. As South Africa is a main trading partner to Switzerland, Germany and
Austria, it's important that the Lufthansa Air remains dynamically present in
the market and maintains strong relations between Europe & South Africa.
We are pleased to continue servicing the local market in
this manner until travel bans are lifted and all Lufthansa Group carriers are
given consent to resume its planned services to Cape Town & Johannesburg
and,” says Dr. André Schulz, GM sales, Lufthansa Group, Southern Africa &
East Africa.
